Annual Meeting was well attended and
the Betty Hill FORUM was, too! Great day for LWV!
As the
minutes will show, Annual Meeting confirmed the recommendation from
Program Planning for a Study of the Town of Weston Charter,
and named seven (7) members willing to do research on the study.
It was
voted to raise the LWV of Weston dues NEXT year (for the 2012-13
period) to $50 individual, $75 family.
Other
happenings: It was noted that the
Steering Committee formula continues to work for the Weston LWV;
discussion of the roles needed to be played to make success at the four
(4) vital public meetings and
ideas for other months' possible programs took place,; it was decided
to reinstitute a
"Legislative Wrap Up."
And then
there was lunch and a spectacular presentation on "Food, Peace and
Sustainability" by Dr. Gita Rajan of Fairfield University.
After the Annual Meeting, members and friends gathered for the 12th
Annual Betty Hill FORUM on International Affairs.
Our speaker,
Professor Rajan, in rapt discussion, sat with State LWV President
during lunch - (see below, in center, at photo on right).
Very well
received, by an impressive audience - so many questions and terrific
answers!
Weston's First
Selectperson (above, left), very interested, sat with
the individual spearheading looking into creating a farm at Lachat (not
pictured);
another individual who was critical to getting Weston school cafeterias
to serve healthier choices listened carefully from across the room (not
pictured).
Our
speaker; former long-time
First Selectman attended, too (center photo, second from the
left)! And so we
start
on another year of League activitity, renewed and refreshed!!!
You are
cordially invited to The League of
Women Voters of Weston...
