Applications are available now for Weston absentee ballots

Weston Town Clerk Donna Anastasia wants college students living out of town and their parents to know that applications for absentee ballots are available now.

“Every election, we get ballots that come back weeks later, because people wait too long to get and return the absentee ballots,” Ms. Anastasia said.

An absentee ballot may be filled out by anyone who is an elector in Weston but who will not be in town on Election Day, Nov. 8. Ballots received after Election Day are not counted.

Two steps

Many people do not realize that casting an absentee ballot is a two-step process, the town clerk said. To receive an absentee ballot, one must first fill out an application for one.

Parents may pick up applications for their out-of-town students, who may then mail the completed application with original signature to: Donna M. Anastasia, Town Clerk, P.O. Box 1007, Weston CT 06883.

Applications for absentee ballots may be picked up at town hall between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; or call 203-222-2616 to have one mailed; or download an application at the secretary of the state’s Web site, www.ct.gov/sots.

After the town clerk receives an application, a ballot will be mailed out beginning on Friday, Oct. 7, the first day ballots are available.

Ms. Anastasia suggests reading the application instructions thoroughly and filling it out and returning it the same day it is received if possible.

LWV OF WESTON ANNUAL MEETING MAY 6, 2011, AT THE RED BARN...

Betty Hill at a U.N. Day ceremony at Weston Town Hall in the 1980's.  A delightful venue for  Annual Meeting and Betty Hill Forum!

LWV 12TH ANNUAL BETTY HILL FORUM:
Annual Meeting was well attended and the Betty Hill FORUM was, too!  Great day for LWV!
As the minutes will show, Annual Meeting confirmed the recommendation from Program Planning for a Study of the Town of Weston Charter, and named seven (7) members willing to do research on the study. 


It was voted to raise the LWV of Weston dues NEXT year (for the 2012-13 period) to $50 individual, $75 family.


Other happenings:  It was noted that the Steering Committee formula continues to work for the Weston LWV;  discussion of the roles needed to be played to make success at the four (4) vital public meetings and ideas for other months' possible programs took place,; it was decided to reinstitute a "Legislative Wrap Up."


And then there was lunch and a spectacular presentation on "Food, Peace and Sustainability" by Dr. Gita Rajan of Fairfield University...full story here plus pictures!

LWVCT FALL CONFERENCE 2010
One Year Later:  Health Care in Our Country and Our State

A SUMMARY OF THE FALL CONFERENCE 2010: 

The presenters were Jacob S. Hacker, the Stanley B. Resor  Professor of Political Science at Yale University and
Kevin Lembo, Comptroller-Elect, who had held the position of state Health  Care Advocate and was co-chair of
the SustiNet Health Partnership Board of Directors.  Kay Maxwell, Former LWVUS president, moderated. 



Professor Hacker discussed the future of  health care reform on the federal level and what that would mean for
Connecticut.  He has written an excellent book about all of this, which was available.



Mr. Lembo, Comptroller-elect, described SustiNet and informed the audience about the specifics of the SustiNet
Board’s upcoming recommendations to the General Assembly for implementation. 



The responders were Stephen Glick of the Chamber Insurance Trust and Frances Padilla, the VP Program, Policy
and Administration for  the Universal Health Care Foundation of CT (the organization that helped design SustiNet).



Written questions were collected from the audience during the presentations and submitted to Kay Maxwell.  The
entire conference was video recorded;  DVDs will be distributed to local leagues.
