Memorable views elsewhere in Weston...
And the Juliana Lachat Preserve, purchased by the Town of Weston and its equal partner, The Nature Conservancy--not in the historic district, but on Godfrey Road.  At the right, a photo of the Saugatuck Reservoir when almost full...

School Road (Board of Education headquarters first)...the map of Referendum projects:

Town Hall Annex (also Board of Education Headquarters' annex).  The schools, all on School Road:  Weston Intermediate School, Weston High School, Weston Middle School (where the Town votes each November), Hurlbutt Elementary School and the football field and really cool track!

Facilities
The tertiary treatment plant for some of school road activities (not Hurlbutt);  the Department of Public Works on Old Hyde Road.  Recycling, Transfer Station panorama (Godfrey Road) above, right.

"The First Selectman shall be an ex-officio member of all agencies of the Town but without power to vote."

Also from the same section of the Charter...

"The First Selectman shall be responsible for directing relationships with State, Regional, and Federal agencies which will or are likely to have an effect on the Town."  (Charter of the Town of Weston, Article 4, Section 4.1).

The office of the First Selectman is in Town Hall (pictured below).

NEXT Board of Selectmen's AGENDA...

DID YOU KNOW THAT...SOME SPECIAL MEETINGS are held with just 24-hour notice posted in the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall? Boards and Commissions register their "regular meeting dates" with the Secretary of the State in Hartford at the beginning of the calendar year...any meeting not on that list is a "Special Meeting."

Something else to know: no action can be taken while in executive session.  In order to vote on any matter, the fact that there may be a vote taken should appear in the notice.

EXECUTIVE SESSIONS (from the F.O.I. WEBsite, short version)...
I. AN AGENCY MAY CLOSE CERTAIN PORTIONS OF ITS MEETINGS BY A VOTE OF 2/3 OF THE MEMBERS PRESENT AND VOTING. THIS VOTE MUST BE CONDUCTED AT A PUBLIC SESSION

Meetings to discuss the following matters may be closed: specific employees (unless the employee concerned requests that the discussions be open to the public); strategy and negotiations regarding pending claims and litigation; security matters; real estate acquisition (if openness might increase price); or any matter that would result in the disclosure of a
public record exempted from the disclosure requirements for public records.

Any business or discussion in a closed session must be limited to the above areas.

The agency may invite persons to present testimony or opinion in the executive session, but their attendance must be limited to only the time necessary for that testimony or opinion.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What is the grade organization of the Weston school system (as it existed in the Fall of 2005)?

There are four (4) school buildings on the 117 acre campus in the center of Town.  Hurlbutt Elementary School is grades K -2 (est. 581 enrollment).   The new Weston Intermediate School, grades 3-5 had an estimated enrollment this Fall of 567 students.  Weston Middle School, grades 6-8 had an estimated enrollment of 632 this Fall. Weston High School (grades 9-12) had an estimated enrollment in the Fall of 2005 of 734 students.

2. Are the school facilities currently involved in construction and expansion projects?
A project is underway to upgrade the high school auditorium, and the old section of the high school roof not included in the Referendum is now complete.  Referendum projects are just about completed.  A bond issue received approval from the voters Nov. 15, 2001, and there was a school expansion project which took place over the ensuing years.  Included in this project was a new 3-4-5 building, a doubling of the size of the high school and construction of fields, all now open. Plan presented at the time of the referendum Nov. 15, 2001 shown below.
